Dear friend,
Our time in the Blue Ridge was so good to us. My health has been the strongest it’s been in months. It’s feeling quite miraculous, and I will take it for however long it lasts. I have shared some beautiful photos from our trip and a brand-new poem with you below called “Matriarch.” I have a feeling this poem will likely be the start of my third poetry collection (Eek!). But you should also know that my focus is on my big nonfiction project, too! I’ll share about that one day soon.
But first, a quick reminder and heartfelt invitation:
And just like that, Exalted Ground is on its way into the world and will be here on April 7th. We have 87 friends who have joined the launch team, and we are looking for just 13 more. I went for a brief walk in the woods on one of the afternoons we were in the Blue Ridge. I don’t get very far these days, but it’s just as sublime because anything I can do that isn’t being in bed is an absolute gift. I believe there is something magical in the Blue Ridge Mountains. When I am there, I can feel Heaven so much nearer, and I feel my body actively healing. I looked it up, and apparently, altitude and being in the mountains (and of course, in nature) are extremely curative for the body in a myriad of ways. Don’t you love it when science confirms what you have already known through your senses and spiritual experiences?
So, back to poetry. The poem below is a reflective narrative of my time in the woods and a small acorn I found. It seeks to connect nature with motherhood and, in some ways, draws subtle connections with Mother Mary. It is meant to marry the natural, personal, and spiritual world as one and celebrate the auspicious and selfless beauty of matriarchy.
